The John Muir Trail (JMT) is a quintessential American backpacking experience, and one of my favorite trails. The landscape is breathtaking, but it is the weather in the Sierra Nevada that distinguishes this trail from all others: its always sunny. I thru hiked the trail from North to South, beginning early on july 27th, 2008 and ending at noon on August 11th, 2008. It took roughly 15 days (with 1 zero day at VVR). I would highly recommend the book The John Muir Trail: The essential guide to hiking America's most famous trail. It was very helpful during my planning process.
